USCIS has announced that it will be going to adjust immigration and naturalization benefit request fees. This allows USCIS to fully recover its operating costs to maintain timely case processing
and prevent future case backlogs, as USCIS receives 96% of its funding from filing fees.
This is the result of a comprehensive fee review. Which has remained unchanged since 2016. This rule would increase certain fees, including the fee for naturalization applications while
preserving existing fee waiver eligibility for low-income and vulnerable populations and adding new exemptions for certain humanitarian programs. This rule would either decrease or only slightly
increase fees for low-income filers each year. This change means USCIS would fully recover operating costs for the first time in six years and would also mean supporting an effort to
rebuild the current immigration system.
These changes are expected to increase the number of officers that are reviewing cases, address technological issues, as well as increasing support for those calling USCIS with questions about
pending cases. Additionally, this rule would not go into effect until after a public comment period where the public has the opportunity to provide feedback, a public engagement session was held on
January 11, 2023.
USCIS seeks to automatically extend the validity of the residence cards better known as the "green card".
The objective of this initiative is that people with long processing times do not have to fill out the I-90 form, but just by having filled out the N-400 form they can receive an extension of 24 months. This can also be applied if you present the expired "green card" as evidence of your current status.
This extension is valid for all people who applied for the N-400 after December 12, 2022. In case you have applied for the N-400 before this date, you would need to complete the I-90 in order to receive the extension.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that USCIS would be testing new updates to the current exam. These tests will have the objective of redesigning the oral expression and civic education tests to improve the quality of the test.
The changes will be carried out based on the results of the 1,500 individuals who will take this new test. In turn, these modifications will be made depending on comments made by interested parties. Finally, the trial time will take place during the first 5 months of 2023
